March Madness has caught up with me!
Reading- As reading levels soar toward each student’s individual goal, we are getting ready for another round of Literature Circles and Guided Reading Groups! Some of our favorite CAFÉ Reading Strategies include: Making Connections, Re-reading, Making Predictions, Tuning In and Asking Questions! Ask your child to share a strategy with you the next time you read together!
Writing- Have you ever wanted to learn how to make a paper airplane, or how to walk a dog, or even how to plan a marvelous birthday party! Well look no further! During our most recent writing unit, we are becoming the experts in ‘How-To’ Writing! Students are practicing writing instructions on how to do something using step by step detail, transition words and helpful illustrations. What can they teach you?
Spelling – Students continue to use (Structured Word Inquiry) SWI to better understand how the spelling of base words can be affected by adding a prefix and/or suffix. This month we continue to examine the relationship between the <i> and <y> team!
Math- Wrapping up our unit on measurement, students should now be able to show you the difference between inches and centimeters and how to measure objects properly using both units of measurement! We have also studied the measurement of time using timelines and clocks. Starting next week, students will be collecting data to make various graphs (pictographs, bar graphs, line graphs etc.). You may even be providing parts of their data collection! Nothing compares to graphing!
Unit-
People work together to help us get our food. 2B sure understands our current Central Idea! As part of the finale to our Unit: From Field to Table, we worked together as a full 2nd grade team to make a yummy picnic for the 3rd graders! 2B worked HARD planning, preparing, and presenting a delicious fruit salad to the hungry 3rd graders during their snack recess. Ask your child how he/she used communication and problem solving to complete a successful factory production line! Videos and pictures coming soon! Our next unit of inquiry is titled: Children Around the World. I bet we will find out about more them than how they get their food…
